Fournette: “Most definitely”
October 19, 2017 07:52 PM | John Oehser

JACKSONVILLE - Leonard Fournette did more Thursday than he did Wednesday.

As for the rookie running back's status for the Jaguars' game against the Indianapolis Colts Sunday, he said that will be determined by the team's coaches.

For his part, Fournette left no doubt he believes he will be ready to play.

"I think I am ... most definitely," Fournette said Thursday as the Jaguars (3-3) prepared to play the Colts (2-4) at Lucas Oil Stadium in Indianapolis, Indiana, Sunday at 1 p.m.

Fournette, who has rushed for 596 yards and six touchdowns in six games this season, sustained an ankle injury early in the fourth quarter of a loss to the Los Angeles Rams Sunday. He had been medically cleared to return later in the game, but he did not play after the injury.

Fournette, who did not practice Wednesday or Thursday, said he started running Thursday and that he expects to try cutting on the ankle Friday.

"We'll see tomorrow," he said, adding of the injury: "It wasn't anything too serious. ... Everything was progressing on its own. We're just taking it a day at a time right now."

Fournette, the No. 4 overall selection in the 2017 NFL Draft, rushed for 181 yards in a victory over the Pittsburgh Steelers October 8 before rushing for 130 yards against the Rams. He rushed for 100 yards in the first quarter against the Rams, who switched to a run-oriented, 6-2defensive formation to hold Fournette to 30 yards rushing in the final three quarters.

The Jaguars lead the NFL in rushing through six games.

"Every week we come in for a dogfight," Fournette said. "It's nothing new. We just have to stay consistent. Everybody has to be on the same page. I believe as a team and as a unit if we come in and do that, we'll win every game."
